About US ⇒
The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda IRA was established under
section 14 of the Insurance Statute 1996 now The Insurance Act, Chap213 Laws
of Uganda, 2000 Insurance Act which came into effect on 4th April 1996 and
commenced operations in April 1997. The establishment of the Insurance
Regulatory Authority of Uganda was a consequence of Government’s adoption of
the liberalization and privatization policies which ended its role of directly
engaging in the provision of goods and services and taking on the role of
supervisor or regulator.

Job Summary ⇒ The Senior Finance Officer will mainly maintain the
established financial and budgeting procedures and financial reporting while
ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements as relating to IRA.

Key Duties and Responsibilities ⇒
⇗ Review all transactions posted into the accounting system on a weekly
basis;
⇗ Review of invoices to ensure all necessary documents are attached as a
prerequisite to processing them for payment;
⇗ Supervise the investigation and follow up of all outstanding items on bank
reconciliation statements;
⇗ Manage Staff imprest, loans, and advances, to ensure all are settled as per
IRA policies/agreement;
⇗ Ensure statutory obligations are settled within the stipulated timelines;
⇗ Review and confirm the accuracy of the payroll and statutory returns;
⇗ Review general journal entries;
⇗ Follow up debtors as per IRA policies;
⇗ Ensure that all financial transaction vouchers are properly kept and
secure;
⇗ Staff supervision, mentoring to ensure the technical capability
⇗ Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

⇗ Reconciled accounts
⇗ Statutory obligations paid on time


Qualifications, Skills and Experience ⇒
⇗ The applicant for the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda IRA Senior
Finance Officer job placement must hold a Bachelor's degree Honours in
Commerce, Business Administration Accounting/Finance Option any equivalent
qualification from a reputable higher institution of learning.
⇗ Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA is an added advantage
⇗ Three years of experience working in a similar position or in a related
environment Knowledge of a number of accounting packages is an added
advantage.
⇗ Personal presentation

⇗ Financial management & reporting skills
⇗ Knowledge of statutory and tax regulations
⇗ Interpersonal skills
⇗ Communication skills
⇗ Analytical skills
⇗ Self-motivated and result oriented
