About US ⇒
The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda IRA was established under
section 14 of the Insurance Statute 1996 now The Insurance Act, Cap213 Laws
of Uganda, 2000 Insurance Act which came into effect on 4th April 1996 and
commenced operations in April 1997. The establishment of the Insurance
Regulatory Authority of Uganda was a consequence of Government’s adoption of
the liberalization and privatization policies which ended its role of directly
engaging in the provision of goods and services and taking on the role of
supervisor or regulator.
Job Summary ⇒ The Legal Officer Regulation & Drafting will provide legal
services support to the Legal Office in the provision of Regulation and
drafting services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities ⇒
⇗ Assist in assessing legal implications in the Authority's dealings with the
insurance companies, other operators who carry on other business that falls
within the purview of the Insurance Act and other pertinent laws and
regulations.
⇗ Interpret the Insurance Act and other pertinent laws and regulations, to
assist in the enforcement together with its related regulations as the need
may arise.
⇗ Assist in monitoring enactments of laws and regulations and assess their
impact on the operations of the Authority.
⇗ Provide legal advice to the Authority.
⇗ Review insurance proposals and policy forms.
⇗ Assist in reviewing, researching and drafting pertinent legal documents in
accordance with statutory requirements.
⇗ Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience ⇒
⇗ The applicant for the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda IRA Legal
Officer Regulation & Drafting job placement must hold a Bachelor s of Laws
degree Honors.
⇗ Diploma in Legal Practice.
⇗ Personal presentation
⇗ Knowledge of legislative drafting
⇗ Analytical skills
⇗ Communication skills
