The institution that was established by an act of parliament in 2002 is a competence and capability centre that champions innovations, translates applied research results into practical applications that lead to high quality efficient industrial products, processes and creates highly skilled human resources.
 
Job Summary  The Director Production Systems will be charge of managing all operations and activities of the Production Systems Directorate and ensuring smooth and efficient progress of the projects undertaken by the Directorate. This includes overseeing the development and performance of appropriate, affordable and competitive value addition technologies and processes to ensure an efficient production system.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
Managing all operations and activities of the Production Systems Directorate and ensuring smooth and efficient progress of the projects undertaken by the Directorate.
Supervise and develop staff professionally as part of performance management practice.
Considering and commending relevant Projects and Annual work plans to the Executive Director for approval in line with the mandate and general guidelines of UIRI.
Planning and Preparing annual budget estimates for the Production Systems Directorate.
Ensuring that Production Systems are compliant with legal/statutory requirements, professional duties, responsibilities and other obligations.
 
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The applicant must hold an M. SC in Process Engineering, MSC. Food Science and Technology, MSC Chemical Engineering or other relevant field.
Additional training in a business related field is an added advantage.
At least ten 10 years of professional experience in a processing and manufacturing technology field
