About US
The Rakai Health Sciences Program RHSP was established in 1987 as a collaboration between researchers at Makerere, Columbia and John Hopkins Universities, the Division of Intramural Research at the National Institutes of Allergy & Infectious diseases and the International Centre for Excellence Research ICER. This was as a result of the first identification of clinical AIDS in Rakai district Uganda in 1982 by Drs. Sewankambo and Serwadda. The initiation of the Program, then known as Rakai Project led to a series of clinical studies characterizing the disease and its epidemiology; and also brought the partnership with other colleagues including Professor Maria Wawer and Prof Ronald Gray.
Job Summary The research assistant shall participate in health education of study participants, data collection, documentation, informed consent process pre and post HIV test counseling and to ensure that high quality data produced in a timely manner
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure all Covid SOPs are in place at the Hub.
Perform Covid 19 screening of all participants at the hub.
Take vital measurements from all participants at the hub/ fingerprint.
Read and explain the consent form to the study participant.
Handle and deal with study participants and other community members and confidential handling participant data and RHSP information.
Maintain regular contact with the team leader and editor and hand over completed census forms to field editor or team leader as soon as they are ready.
Perform phlebotomy to all participants in the team, labeling and temporary storage of biological specimens and handle them over to field laboratory contact person as soon as they have been collected.
Notification of study participants.
Any other assigned duties in line with your role.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate must hold a Certificate in Comprehensive enrolled Nursing or enrolled Nursing form reputable insititution.
At least 1 year experience in a reputable health organization.
Experience in human subjects research is an added advantage.
Must have a practicing license with nursing council.
Excellent communication skills required Both oral & written
Fluent in Luganda.
Ability to ride a motorcycle is a MUST attach riding permit.
