About US
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration IDRC is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of Health
 
Job Summary   The Laboratory Technologist will be in charge of laboratory work and activities for the study in addition to monitoring and managing the lab supplies.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
Carry out laboratory testing of samples for the Child TB study.
Oversee the proper transportation and storage of samples as recommended by the manufacturer.
Ensuring proper incubation, preparation and testing samples for TB with the
QuantiFERON Gold Plus QFT, an Interferon Gamma Release Assay IGRA.
Recording results of laboratory evaluations.
Keeping record of all laboratory activities and results for study participants
Perform laboratory quality control and assurance.
Ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks
Maintain accountability logs for all the tests conducted.
Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and any allocated resources.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelors Degree of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
A minimum of two years of progressive working experience in a research setting, with good knowledge of research ethics.
Prior experience conducting ELISA tests is a MUST.
Experience with TB lab procedures particularly Quantiferon Gold Plus QFT is an added advantage.
Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
Possession of a valid practicing license.
Up to date GCP/HSP training certificates.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
