About US
Chapter Four Uganda is an independent not-for profit non-partisan organization dedicated to the protection of civil liberties and promotion of human rights for all in Uganda. It derives its name from the bill of rights contained under chapter four of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. Incorporated in 2013 under the laws of Uganda, Chapter Four Uganda is a robust and coordinated mechanism for legal response to abuse of civil liberties. The organization provides bold and innovative legal response through representation, litigation and counsel to the most vulnerable and discriminated sections of society.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities  
Analyse laws, policies and practices with the aim of developing areas of strategic litigation for the organization.
Draft legal documents and follow-up all related court processes.
Represent the organization's clients.
Analyse and review bills, new laws and regulations, and court practice directives and provide recommendations for advocacy.
Engage different state agencies on issues of legal review and legal reform in Uganda.
Follow up and coordinate advocates instructed to handle cases.
Provide rapid legal response to clients.
Ensure proper filing records and status updates for client files.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The applicant must hold a University Degree in Law, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre LDC. A Master's degree will be an additional advantage.
The candidate MUST have a valid Practicing Certificate PC.
At least 3 three years of work experience in litigation and working in human rights related work.
Experience in litigation on human rights and constitutional petitions.
Experience in working with civil society organizations and networks engaged in development and social justice work at the national, regional and/or international levels.
Excellent interpersonal skills tact, diplomacy and discretion
Ability to work under minimum supervision.
