About US
Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda’s largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became an independent national university in 1970.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
Plan allocated ICT audit assignment according to the approved Internal Audit Plan.
Carry out reviews on system development standards, operating procedures, system security, programming controls, communication controls, backup & disaster recovery, and system maintenance.
Keenly review IT systems core applications, networks, databases, hardware and software regularly and give assurance that controls are working as intended.
Carry out approved audit procedures and prepare working papers in accordance with Directorate guidelines and the Institute of Internal Auditors IIA standards.
Identify areas for improvement in the University’s IT governance, risk management and internal controls.
Maintain adequate knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Carry out special investigations and consulting engagements as assigned by management.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field/ Accounting/ Finance/ Business Studies.
Completion of CISA Certified Information Systems Auditor or other Certifications in one or more of the traditional IT disciplines applications, operations, infrastructure, and management
Master’s Degree – Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, IT Risk Management/Governance, Business Administration
Recognized accounting/auditing/other information system certifications e.g. CPA, CIA, CISSP.
At least four years of Internal and/or External IT auditing experience
Should have experience in Data Analysis including knowledge of Big Data Analysis.
Progressive achievement in one or more of the traditional IT disciplines applications, operations, infrastructure, and management
Excellent Analytical Skills
Excellent leadership and teamwork skills
Expert knowledge of internal auditing, internal controls, risk management, and finance and accounting practices and methods
Experience with information systems and business processes in public sector.
Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills
Comprehensive understanding of internal control environments within the IT function
Proactive, hands-on, results-driven orientation required.
