About the Organization

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent, humanitarian organization working on all aspects of the refugee cause in more than 36 countries throughout the world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights.

Job Summary

To oversee, coordinate, and lead the implementation of a 2-year project with funding from the Coca-Cola Foundation. The Project Coordinator will ensure all activities are comprehensively planned, implemented, monitored, and adapted, while leading field-level coordination with Ecoplastile and other stakeholders across Kampala and Southwestern regions.

Key Responsibilities

Management and Coordination

  • Coordinate with the Kenya team, ensuring overall responsibility for technical management of field-level activities.
  • Ensure collaborative relationships with implementing partners per DRC’s Code of Conduct.
  • Facilitate cross-sector collaboration with government agencies, local partners, and private companies.
  • Represent DRC publicly in technical working groups and settlement-level forums.

Implementation and Technical Support

  • Organize implementation of project targets with Ecoplastile and the Kenyan team.
  • Ensure updated monthly/quarterly implementation plans for project locations.
  • Provide oversight in compliance with economic recovery principles and donor regulations.
  • Offer technical assistance during training sessions for waste pickers and entrepreneurs.

Program Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation

  • Establish monitoring systems with the MEAL department.
  • Track progress with private sector actors and consolidate periodic reports.
  • Prepare donor reports per organizational requirements.
  • Document and disseminate lessons learned for advocacy efforts.

Budget Management

  • Monitor spending against budget to mitigate financial risks.
  • Liaise with Finance, Supply Chain, and HR for Program Monthly Meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with donor guidelines and escalate risks to senior management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Development Studies, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years’ experience in livelihood programming, including 3 years in refugee contexts.
  • Proven ability to integrate market assessments into program strategies.
  • Experience in circular economy, climate adaptation, and gender-sensitive programming.
  • Strong project management, reporting, and stakeholder coordination skills.
