Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited UEDCL was incorporated on April 1, 2001 as a successor distribution company following the unbundling of Uganda Electricity Board. It is fully owned by the Government of Uganda. The company monitors
Umeme Ltd investment and has an ERA license to distribute power in eight service territories covering over 60 districts of Uganda. Its mandate also includes managing of the pole treatment plant at Lugogo plus execution of some rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
 
Job Summary  Support the Internal Audit function to provide an independent and objective assurance service to management and the Board.
Add value in continuous improvement of business operations through performing audit of processes that ensure compliance with UEDCL’s operational and accounting policies in line with the company strategy and the Standards for Professional Practice of Internal Audit SPPIA.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
Execute the risk based Internal Audit Annual Plan in line with the manual and SPPIA.
Perform audit of the processes that ensure compliance with organization’s operational and accounting policies in line with the UEDCL strategy and standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing SPPIA,
Develop internal control compliance checklists and execute Audits across all departments of the organization and report on the findings accordingly
Support / Handle special Audit assignment requests by the Manager Internal Audit into various special financial and operational investigations in line with UEDCL policies and procedures.
Support preparation of a work methodology and conduct audit of Umeme asset investments in line with the Lease and Assignment Agreement.
Perform value for money audits and advise management how to efficiently, effectively and economically use the available scarce resources.
Support the formulation of risk management strategies and mitigation measures for all operations of the organization.
Review office financial systems and report on compliance with the UEDCL Financial Policies and the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices.
Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time in line with Internal Audit strategy.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in commerce BCOM, Business Administration BBA, Bachelor of Arts in Economics, BA ECON, BSc Electrical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.
Must have completed at least Stage 2 Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA or other internationally recognized accounting and audit qualifications.
Post graduate qualification or Computer Systems Audit Certification would be an added advantage.
Experience of not less than 3 years in the Audit practice in a recognized organization.
Excellent written communication skills and ability to work amidst tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal with situations of potential conflict and a high level of integrity and leadership skills.
Computer literacy with excellent working knowledge of computerized accounting systems, especially Sun System is essential.
