About UNHCR
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is to lead and co-ordinate action for international protection to refugees; seek permanent solutions for the problems of refugees and safeguard refugee rights and well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate concerning issues of statelessness, as it is given a designated role under Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide advice and recommendations on knowledge management and information sharing, and draft related procedures to ensure compliance
Support the implementation of communications and fundraising strategies for countries, situations and special projects.
Help ensure that reporting reaches maximum impact by supporting the development of strategies and analysis for distribution.
Systematically review impact and reach results and other measurement tools for learning purposes.
Maintain up-to-date filing system and External Relations calendar.
Collect press-cuttings of articles in national, regional, international and periodicals that pertain to refugee related issues and to the work of the office, and compile and distribute a daily news clipping service.
Assist in compilation and editing of weekly, monthly, annual/quarterly thematic reports, situations reports etc.
Perform any other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate for the United Nations Intern job placement must hold a University, preferably advanced, in International Law, Political Science, International Relations, Communications or a related field
Fluency in English written and spoken essential
Fluency in Arabic or French desirable
Excellent communication and drafting skills
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office 365 applications including SharePoint.
Previous experience in an international environment is an advantage
Positive inter-personal skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-functional team and environment
Knowledge of and commitment to the mandate of UNHCR
Recent graduate those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
NB
An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.

Allowance Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
