Job Summary
The Assistant Accountant will support the finance department by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting and compliance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and post accounting entries into the accounting system
- Process supplier invoices and customer payments
- Reconcile bank accounts, cash, and ledger balances
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Prepare payment vouchers, receipts, and journal entries
- Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Assist with payroll processing where required
- Monitor fuel station sales reconciliations and cash collections
- Assist during internal and external audits
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and tax regulations
- Perform any other finance duties assigned by the Finance Manager or Chief Accountant
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce
- CPA Level II or higher is often an added advantage
- 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the petroleum, retail, or FMCG sector
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Tally, QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP systems)
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Financial reporting skills
- Bank and account reconciliations experience
- Accounts payable and receivable knowledge
- Cash management skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Good time management
- Problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Ugandan tax regulations is an advantage
