Ramex Petroleum (U) Limited is an expanding mid-sized downstream oil and gas company headquartered in Kampala, Uganda. The company specializes in the retail and commercial bulk distribution of petroleum products and alternative energy solutions across the country.

Job Summary

The Assistant Accountant will support the finance department by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting and compliance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare and post accounting entries into the accounting system
• Process supplier invoices and customer payments
• Reconcile bank accounts, cash, and ledger balances
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Prepare payment vouchers, receipts, and journal entries
• Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
• Assist with payroll processing where required
• Monitor fuel station sales reconciliations and cash collections
• Assist during internal and external audits
• Ensure compliance with company financial policies and tax regulations
• Perform any other finance duties assigned by the Finance Manager or Chief Accountant

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce
• CPA Level II or higher is often an added advantage
• 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the petroleum, retail, or FMCG sector
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Tally, QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP systems)
• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
• Financial reporting skills
• Bank and account reconciliations experience
• Accounts payable and receivable knowledge
• Cash management skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Good time management
• Problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of Ugandan tax regulations is an advantage
