The company achieved a major milestone when the Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development officially granted it a 21-year Large-Scale Mining License (LML0344). This project aims to establish one of the largest industrial developments in the Karamoja sub-region.

Job Summary

The Mining Surveying Engineer is responsible for planning, conducting, and supervising all mine surveying activities to ensure the accurate measurement, mapping, monitoring, and reporting of mining operations. The role supports mine planning, resource management, production monitoring, stockpile management, and regulatory compliance by providing accurate survey data required for safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Mine Surveying and Mapping

  • Conduct topographical, engineering, boundary, and production surveys
  • Establish, maintain, and verify survey control points and benchmarks
  • Prepare and update mine plans, pit designs, haul road layouts, and survey
  • Carry out field surveys using Total Stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, drones, and other survey instruments
  • Ensure accurate positioning and alignment of mining activities in accordance with approved mine plans

Production Monitoring and Stockpile Management

  • Measure and calculate volumes of limestone, overburden, waste material, and stockpiles
  • Monitor excavation progress and provide accurate production survey data
  • Conduct periodic stockpile surveys and reconciliation exercises
  • Verify material movement and support inventory control processes
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production survey reports

Mine Planning Support

  • Provide accurate survey data to support mine planning and operational decision-making
  • Collaborate with Mining Engineers and Geologists in the preparation of short-term and long-term mine plans
  • Ensure mining activities remain within approved mining boundaries and designs
  • Assist in monitoring pit development and mine expansion projects

Survey Data Management and Analysis

  • Process and analyze survey data using specialized software
  • Generate digital terrain models, contour maps, and volumetric calculations
  • Maintain accurate survey databases, records, and technical documentation
  • Prepare survey reports, drawings, and presentations for management and regulatory authorities

Technology and Equipment Management

  • Operate and maintain survey equipment, including GPS/GNSS receivers, Total Stations, drones, levels, and laser scanners
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and safe use of survey equipment
  • Support the implementation of modern surveying technologies and best practices

Safety, Health, Environmental, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all surveying activities comply with Occupational Safety and Health regulations and mining legislation
  • Participate in risk assessments, safety inspections, and incident investigations
  • Support environmental monitoring, land rehabilitation, and compliance initiatives
  • Assist in preparing survey information required by regulatory authorities and auditors

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve surveying accuracy, efficiency, and operational performance
  • Participate in mining optimization and operational improvement projects
  • Support innovation and digital transformation initiatives within the mining department

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Surveying Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geospatial Engineering, Land Surveying, or a related field
  • Professional registration with a recognized engineering or surveying body is an added advantage
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in mine surveying, quarry surveying, construction surveying, or large-scale earthworks operations
  • Proficiency in surveying software such as AutoCAD, Surpac, Minescape, ArcGIS, Civil 3D, Vulcan, or equivalent applications
  • Experience operating Total Stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, drones, and other modern surveying technologies
  • Strong knowledge of mining operations, surveying principles, and spatial data
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong technical problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to interpret survey data, engineering drawings, and mine plans
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote mining environment
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability
