Through this venture, UgaLumber will improve market access for tree growers, generate sustainable returns, and position Uganda as a regional leader in responsible and sustainable timber production.

Job Summary

The Finance and Administration Officer will play a key role in ensuring the financial health, regulatory compliance, and administrative efficiency of UgaLumber Company Ltd. This position combines responsibilities in financial management, office administration, procurement, and human resources support. The officer will support the General Manager in financial reporting, internal controls, resource planning, and day-to-day operations of the Luwero site.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage day-to-day accounting, bookkeeping, and reconciliations using the company accounting systems.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including cash flow statements, income statements, and balance sheets.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with tax regulations and statutory requirements (URA, NSSF, PAYE, etc.).
  • Support budget development and provide variance analysis to management.
  • Manage payments, invoicing, receivables, and petty cash.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Oversee general office operations including supplies, logistics, and documentation.
  • Maintain staff records, attendance logs, and leave tracking.
  • Coordinate procurement activities and maintain an updated assets register.
  • Ensure proper filing and safekeeping of company documents (licenses, insurance, contracts).

HR & Compliance Support

  • Assist in recruitment processes, onboarding, and performance appraisal administration.
  • Ensure staff adhere to company policies and HR procedures.
  • Support compliance with labor laws and occupational safety requirements.
  • Help implement systems to track KPIs and employee performance.

Audit & Risk Management

  • Prepare documentation and schedules for internal and external audits.
  • Implement internal control systems to safeguard company assets.
  • Identify risks related to finance, administration, or compliance and suggest mitigations.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timeliness and accuracy of financial reports.
  • Budget execution and cost control effectiveness.
  • Statutory and tax compliance rate.
  • Efficiency of procurement and administrative systems.
  • Audit outcomes and adherence to internal controls.
  • Staff satisfaction with administrative support.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, or in progress) is highly desirable.
  • At least 4–6 years of relevant experience in finance and administration roles, preferably in the manufacturing, agribusiness, or forestry sectors.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Odoo, Tally, or similar).
  • Sound knowledge of Ugandan tax laws and statutory reporting.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work under minimal supervision.
