Job Summary
The Sales & Marketing Assistant plays a key operational role in supporting product distribution, customer engagement, marketing promotions, and field sales activities. The position involves delivering dairy products, maintaining customer relationships, and ensuring the visibility and availability of Ruko products within assigned territories. This role combines sales, marketing, and driving responsibilities ensuring that products reach customers on time, promotional activities are effectively executed, and brand visibility is consistently maintained. It is a hands-on field position requiring regular travel, direct interaction with clients, and adherence to company service and safety standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Sales and Field Operations
- Support the Sales and Marketing Supervisor in implementing daily field sales and marketing plans.
- Visit retail outlets, distributors, and customers to promote and sell company products.
- Take and confirm customer orders, ensure accurate deliveries, and collect payments where required.
- Monitor stock levels at customer outlets and report shortages or product demand trends.
- Load and offload products and promotional materials safely and accurately.
Product Delivery and Distribution
- Drive company vehicles to deliver dairy products and promotional materials to customers and distribution centers on schedule.
- Verify quantities, delivery documents, and invoices before departure and upon delivery.
- Ensure products are transported under proper hygiene and safety conditions to maintain quality.
- Support efficient route planning and timely delivery across assigned areas.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, shop attendants, and distributors.
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints courteously, escalating complex issues to the supervisor.
- Collect feedback on product quality, pricing, and service delivery to improve customer satisfaction.
- Support the implementation of customer retention and loyalty programs.
Marketing and Promotional Activities
- Participate in field promotions, activations, and trade shows to enhance product visibility.
- Assist in setting up marketing displays, distributing samples, and explaining product features to customers.
- Ensure that promotional materials (posters, banners, signage) are properly displayed in all assigned sales points.
- Report the performance and impact of promotional campaigns to the supervisor.
Vehicle Operation and Maintenance
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any mechanical or safety issues.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the delivery vehicle, especially when handling dairy products.
- Ensure the vehicle remains roadworthy, fuelled, and serviced as required.
- Adhere to all road safety regulations and company driving policies.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, sales transactions, customer visits, and mileage logs.
- Submit daily activity and delivery reports to the Sales and Marketing Supervisor.
- Track and report fuel usage, delivery times, and product returns.
- Support inventory tracking and territory mapping as required.
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to company policies on product handling, quality assurance, and road safety.
- Observe all hygiene, safety, and defensive driving practices during field operations.
- Safeguard company property and products during transportation and fieldwork.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Diploma or Certificate in Marketing, Business Administration, Commerce, Logistics, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Driving License: Valid CM and CH license classes.
- Professional Training: Valid Driving Certificate from a recognized institution is an added advantage.
- Defensive Driving Certificate and short courses in Sales or Customer Service is an added advantage.
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in sales, marketing, or distribution within the FMCG (preferably dairy) sector.
