Job Summary

Support the implementation of Engineering and Resilience Design practices, contributing to fieldwork, community engagement activities, and ensuring the quality and impact of assigned activities within the operational area. The Graduate Trainee will gain hands-on experience in both large-scale and household resilience design interventions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement resilience design, soil and water practices that enhance soil health, biodiversity, and water conservation.
  • Prepare drawings, designs and BOQs of all infrastructure activities using various drawing software.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to identify soil and water resources management needs in target communities.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including soil conservation and water harvesting structures such as micro-dams, and bioswales.
  • Supervise the construction of soil and water management structures, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams and contractors during the implementation of activities.
  • Promote climate-smart & restorative agriculture techniques to increase productivity while minimizing environmental impact.
  • Develop appropriate training content, materials and tools targeting different audiences (community, staff, partners, and other relevant stakeholders).
  • Conduct routine monitoring to the field sites, block farms, households to ensure quality progress of activities, providing hands-on technical support as needed.
  • Produce timely reports and share them with the immediate supervisor following agreed reporting guidelines and timelines.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s in civil engineering or water engineering or a related field (should have graduated only within the last 2 years).
  • Proven experience in working with rural communities and building their capacities in sustainable practice.
  • Skills in GIS software, ArchiCAD and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to write good reports, engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with work in refugee settlements and refugee host-communities is an added advantage.
