Job Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of production at a high-capacity dairy processing plant. This role ensures efficient, safe, and compliant processing of dairy products including UHT milk, yoghurt, butter, and ice cream. The manager leads production planning, workforce supervision, and process optimization to meet output targets while maintaining the highest standards of quality and food safety.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Production Operations
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily production activities to meet volume and quality targets
- Ensure timely processing, packaging, and dispatch of dairy products
- Optimize production line efficiency and minimize downtime through proactive management
Quality & Compliance
- Enforce adherence to food safety standards including HACCP, ISO 22000, and UNBS regulations
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to resolve non-conformities and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accurate production records and documentation for audits and traceability
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor production supervisors, machine operators, and support staff
- Conduct performance reviews, training sessions, and shift planning
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Resource Management
- Monitor usage of raw materials, packaging supplies, and utilities to reduce waste and control costs
- Coordinate with procurement and inventory teams to ensure timely availability of inputs
- Manage production budgets and contribute to cost-saving initiatives
Process Improvement
- Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies
- Lead initiatives to improve throughput, reduce losses, and enhance product consistency
- Stay updated on industry trends and recommend technology upgrades where applicable
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Dairy Technology, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 5–8 years in dairy or food manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of dairy processing equipment, pasteurization, homogenization, and packaging systems
- Familiarity with HACCP, ISO, GMP, and local food safety laws
- Proven ability to manage large teams and coordinate cross-functional operations
