About BMCT
Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust (BMCT) was established in 1994, with the major aim of providing long-term reliable support for projects promoting research, conservation of biological diversity and sustainable use of natural resources in the two parish radius around Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) while at the same time promoting the well-being of these communities.
Job Summary
To deliver towards the mission and vision of the Trust. BMCT desires to recruit staff in the position of Communication and Partnerships Officer Kabale but with frequent travel to the field to support the implementation of BMCT programmes and projects BMCT operates in the Districts of Kanungu, Kisoro and Rubanda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Communication Strategy & Projects
- Develop and implement BMCT’s communication and visibility strategy
- Support the communication needs of BMCT projects, including documenting success stories and lessons learnt, preparing reports, and ensuring impactful messaging
- Design and oversee awareness campaigns that highlight BMCT’s work and impact
Media, Public Relations & Partnerships
- Maintain a database of media organizations and contacts.
- Manage media relations, draft press releases, newsletters, and web content, and coordinate interviews with approval from the TA.
- Build and manage partnerships with relevant stakeholders to strengthen BMCT’s visibility and resource mobilization
ICT & Digital Communications
- Manage BMCT’s social media platforms, website, and other digital communication channels
- Support ICT-related tasks such as basic troubleshooting ensuring smooth use of internal systems, and exploring digital tools that improve communication efficiency.
- Ensure effective use of multimedia (photos, graphics, videos) to support outreach.
Events & Campaigns
- Coordinate events, workshops, and public engagements, ensuring proper planning, branding, and communication
- Produce event briefs and reports and manage media coverage for BMCT events
Internal Communication & Systems
- Strengthen internal communication systems to ensure smooth information flow between BMCT offices and field teams.
- Support staff in adopting communication tools and platforms
Administration & Resource Mobilization
- Prepare and manage the communications budget in collaboration with the TA.
- Participate in resource mobilization through preparation of communication materials and proposals.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, ICT, or related fields (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
- 2-5 years’ experience in a communications or marketing role in a busy organization (experience with a conservation organisation is an added advantage).
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Good understanding of social media management, website content management, and basic ICT support
- Familiarity with web design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator (or similar)
- Experience in event planning and coordination.
- Strategic thinker, proactive, and able to work independently with minimum supervision and in diverse teams
- Excellent time management, interpersonal skills and multitasking ability
- Willingness to work up country with frequent travel in challenging environments
